Welcome families to Celebration of Learning 2024! I hope you have an opportunity to connect with your child about their experiences here in my classroom and at All Souls. Catholic schools are ennobled by our call not only to be places of formation of individuals, but also of communities on the path toward the realization of the transcendent purpose of human life. From our small perspective in our daily efforts, it can be difficult to see the bigger picture of God's plan for us.
Math class in particular can be one of those places where students wonder "WHY do I have to do this!?!" While that answer may not be readily apparent to most middle school students, it is my hope that the experiences they have in this class will help guide them toward it. Math is so much more than just numbers - it is a language and a way of thinking. It is a tool that when learned well, unlocks a person's ability to achieve the goals set by their natural curiosity. For today's visit - please check out your grade's page and stop at the locations mentioned there. One final note - in any and all classes there is a high level of variation among students. Each student is at a very different and very unique part of their journey with math. The standards set for all students are high, but each student may require something different to shepherd them along the path to learning. All students in my classes have worked hard, and have worked hard in different ways. Please join me in celebrating their work, in challenging them to grow further and do their best!
